What is the Lucan Crest?

The Lucan crest was of two chained wolves on their hind legs guarding a shield and a coronet. The family motto is 'Spes Mea Christus', 'In Christ lies my hope'.

Some believe that the wolves - snarling, with mouths open and tongues lolling out - uncannily reflect the notorious temper of several of the Earls Lucan.

The story of Lord Lucan can be found in William Coles' brilliantly edited
